If you haven’t heard of artificial intelligence (AI) by now, then you’ve been living on another planet. Welcome! But even if you are somewhat familiar, you may still be confused. Depending on the day of the week, AI is poised to either be our savior or completely destroy the world.

But amid this hype-storm could you even really describe what AI is? Or what makes up AI? And most importantly, how to grow, protect and think of your business and brand in a world where AI is proliferated? We are certain of one thing: Companies must understand the value of trust before investing heavily into AI to manage consumer data.


Joel Erb, Senior Director of Digital Strategy, Padilla

With two decades of experience delivering digital strategy, Joel is skilled at identifying areas where technology can create opportunity and solve problems. A tech entrepreneur since the age of 15, Joel has a track record as a change agent, understanding how technology fits within complex business environments to be most successful. Joel belongs to the Padilla Digital team, charged with leading and executing digital initiatives and strategies while developing new digital business opportunities and growth globally. He has worked with companies such as AOL, Allianz, Walmart, BF Goodrich, Air New Zealand, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Wine. Joel has been recognized as a Rising Technology Star, Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the SBA and Top 40 Under 40.

Mike Garrison, Vice President, Insights and Strategy, Padilla

In his 18 years as a consumer and brand researcher, Mike has worked with various internal groups such as marketing, programming, strategy, ad sales, acquisitions, digital/new media and new business development. In his current role at Padilla he collaborates with research, account management and creative teams, to help determine how best to arrive at insights that ultimately drive messaging, brand, creative, media, digital and communication strategy.

Prior to joining Padilla, Mike was vice president, senior consumer strategist at Iconoculture (now Gartner) where he led the Media, Entertainment and Technology group, including client-facing strategic conversations around consumer behaviors and internal consumer trend thinking. Mike’s career began in Consumer and Brand Insights at MTV. Mike has also worked with the Nielsen Interactive Group and the MTV Networks family where he worked under the Nickelodeon Digital and TV brand. He graduated from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in English.
