Affiliated PRSSA Chapters

Minnesota PRSA is deeply committed to supporting the development of the next generation of public relations professionals.

The chapter's Student Relations committee supports 11 Minnesota PRSA-affiliated Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapters. The committee helps these students learn more about the profession and PRSA, as well as prepare for a career in public relations, by providing opportunities for students to interact with professionals, network with potential employers and gain experience in the field.

Internship Opportunities

For PRSSA students looking for internship opportunities in the Twin Cities, please visit the Minnesota PRSA Job Board to view current openings. Also, visit the Internship page for links to articles providing advice on making the most out of your internship.

Pro-Am (Professional-Amateur) Day

To participate in Professional-Amateur (Pro-Am) Day, typically held in early March, matches PRSSA juniors and seniors with a public relations professional in the Twin Cities for a day of job shadowing. A networking event with all Pro-Am Day participants closes the day. There is a fee of $25 to participate; however, to help off-set the cost, students may use the Minnesota PRSA Leadership Fund.

Minnesota PRSA Leadership Fund

The Minnesota PRSA Leadership Fund was initiated by Minnesota members of the PRSA College of Fellows. The fund helps defray the registration costs for PRSSA members who wish to attend Minnesota PRSA programs or events. Students can request up to $40 per calendar year by submitting a request to the Student Relations committee. To request a voucher, please submit the form at least two weeks prior to the registration deadline for the requested event or program. The Student Relations committee will notify you if your request has been approved.

Dr. Willard Thompson Scholarship

Minnesota PRSA sponsors an annual scholarship program named after the late Dr. Willard Thompson of the University of Minnesota School of Journalism. The scholarship recognizes students who excel in the study of public relations and communications.

Applications are distributed to affiliated PRSSA chapters in the fall, and will also be available online. Awards are given at the annual Minnesota PRSA Classics Award Banquet in the spring. It's a great opportunity for PRSSA members to use their skills and gain exposure to professionals.

Leadership Retreat

At the start of the school year, all executive board members from the affiliated PRSSA chapters are invited to participate in the Leadership Retreat.

This event allows students to prepare for their leadership roles within their chapters. Students learn about the extensive resources available to them in PRSA, how to improve communications within their chapters and how to engage their members in professional development and networking opportunities through PRSSA and PRSA.

Minnesota PRSA Associate Membership – Continue the Journey in Public Relations

Did you know that regular PRSA members pay $175 per year in national and local dues while Associate Members pay only $300? Minnesota PRSA even waives the chapter fees to Associate Members for the first two years.

Continuing your involvement in PRSA will give you a solid network of professionals as you begin your career. Through PRSA, you’ll meet experts in many specialty areas of public relations while receiving extensive professional development opportunities and tools to help you become more effective in your job.

PRSA members also receive two informative publications each month, Tactics and The Strategist. Perhaps one of the greatest benefits of PRSA Associate Membership is that it isn’t necessary to have a job to join. In order to join PRSA as a regular member, you must be employed, but Associate Membership is available while looking for a job. The networking opportunities PRSA offers have helped many find jobs in public relations.

Becoming an Associate Member allows you to immediately work with other professionals, enrich your skills, expand your knowledge and open doors to the world of public relations. Think of all the experiences, contacts and friends you’ve gained through PRSSA. Don’t pass up the opportunity to stay networked in PRSA while gaining valuable professional experience.
